About Kenya Kambarare Coffee (#005)
Whilst a lot of the coffees come from organically certified farms, a lot more coffee comes from much smaller plantations, where a certification would not be economically possible. Gringo choose to support these farms as there is often a good intentions behind each farmer, especially the ones that work with quality, that translate into positive and considerate environmentally-friendly practices.
This small microlot comes from Kambarare Estate, which is a family-owned farm in the forest of Mount Kenya, in the Kirinyaga district. The farm is run by young Gerald Njagi, together with his father and two brothers. Gerald is a third generation coffee producer at this location.
Cherry Cola / Juicy / Strawberry Caramel
This batch is their first anaerobic coffee, where the SL28 and SL34 varieties are depulped and then fermented in the air tight barrels. This is one of many microlotts that Gerald has experimented with, and perhaps the best. There are plenty of juicy notes here, for which Kenya is so famous, but with a heightened complexity from the anaerobic fermentation. The coffee tastes of both butterscotch and acidic caramel, irresistibly delicious
